After a successful episode with Marie Stopes Society in 2014, this year it was another division of the NGO in Pakistan to visit Phuket for the purpose of further improving the already effective team performance and enhance the leadership skills of the delegates in this group of highly motivated 24.
This year’s focus was on improving the team’s dysfunctions and through a 3-day program enhance team dynamics on the topics of Trust, Conflict, Commitment, Accountability and Results.
The first day was a full day seminar on the Five Dysfunctions of a Team concept which included a balanced approach between going through and understanding the relevant theory and at intervals conducting indoor activities based on the theory to better understand and experience the concepts presented.
With the experience of day one in the back of the mind and on day two, the group went out in several teams for the well-known team building activity the Amazing Race to further work on improving team dysfunctions and dynamics. The Amazing Race was conducted by going around Phuket in minivans with driver and guide from location to location and completing cultural challenges to be back at the hotel first. Challenges included Thai dancing, Muay Thai boxing and kite making. The winning team was presented with gifts in an awarding ceremony.
Day three of this incentive and leadership program presented the biggest challenge of all, a full day Survivor program on a private secluded island just off the coast of Phuket. With all the tokens, music and branding of the TV-show in the back, teams had to now face each other in a variety of physically and mentally demanding activities on the beach and the island. In between teams made use of the time to discuss their performance, team work and leadership in terms of the models presented on day one. Leaders had to give away their role when failure and could continue their role in victory.
After the last activity the winning team of Survivor Island Phuket was awarded with prices and a group photo marked the end of a successful three-day program for Marie Stopes Society Pakistan and Making Teams in Phuket, Thailand.
