Event Overview
Location
The Cultural discovery Challenge was held at multiple points on the Chao Praya River.
Company/People
The team of approximately 30 from worldbank was comprised of delegates from all over the world.
Event Objectives
The goal for this event was to experience sights and sounds of Thailand while still gaining cultural knowledge and build team relationships. Teams had to complete cultural challenges and riddles for each location chosen along the river.
Team Building Activities
Participants were put into pre set teams of 10 each and led by facilitators Cian and Will. Travelling on the same boat, once we hit shore Teams had to search for information and race back to the boat before any other teams.
Schedule
1 – Gong Wu Shrine
CHALLENGE 1) At the shrine there are three statures of Gong Wu. Which group of people brought the smallest statue to Thailand? HOKKIAN TRIBE
CHALLENGE 2) There are many animals depicted in and around the shrine grounds. Look at the list below. Which animals from the list are NOT displayed? TURTLE – RHINO – RABBIT

2 – The Princess Mother Memorial Park
CHALLENGE 1) The young girl that would grow up to be Mother to a King lived right where you are standing. What was her father’s profession?
CHALLENGE 2) What kind of shop did ‘Auntie Somboon’ own? TOBACCO SHOP
CHALLENGE 3) Look for the sandstone relief depicting aspects of Thai life. How many musicians do you see?
3 – Wat Kalayanamitr Varamahavihara
CHALLENGE 1) Follow the sound of shaking sticks. Be patient, calm, observant. Watch the rituals being performed and try to guess what is happening. If you truly understand only then will you be able to find and return with your fortune.
CHALLENGE 2) There are many positions that the lord Buddha can be shown in. Each with its own meaning. But only a few statues show other beings as well. What three creatures are depicted alongside the Buddha? Monkey/Elephant/Dragon
CHALLENGE 3) Fourteen Buddhas on display, all in various positions. How many are sitting in the ‘One hand resting, Full Lotus‘ position? 4
4 – Wat Arun
CHALLENGE 1) The steps are many and the heat is intense but to the top you must go (as far as possible anyway). Starting at the base of the stupa count how many steps are to the top. 60
CHALLENGE 2) There are four fearsome guardians overlooking each direction. How many elephant heads do you see? 12
CHALLENGE 3) Outside of the main pagoda enclosure and to the left you will see a smaller Buddhist chapel. Two of your team are to somehow receive a Buddhist blessing from a real Buddhist monk. SHOW RED WRIST BAND
