What would you do if you were millions of miles from home, all alone, stuck in a desolate life-threatening landscape and only able to communicate with your team in extreme difficulties? That’s the premise of our new game based on the hit movie “The Martian”. A hybrid online escape room and virtual scavenger hunt, in this game you need to solve a series of puzzles to keep yourself alive and find ways to communicate with Earth, all the while exploring a rich and interactive 3D virtual world, including the Martian landscape, the interior of the habitat with its crew quarters and laboratory and of course the Mars Rover as you drive around on the surface of the Red Planet.
Just like other escape rooms, the puzzles include finding hidden items, cracking codes, solving puzzles and working out how to survive long enough for the rescue mission to take place and bring you safely back to earth.
What makes this escape room a little bit different is our separation of the players into two small teams working together. On Mars the Martian team will explore the environment and try to survive, while back on Earth the NASA control team will assist by solving their own set of problems and trying to keep their astronauts alive. Sharing information between the two teams is a challenge and we have created some interesting interfaces to simulate this difficult communication.
