Overview:
Making Teams organised a half day Saratoga Family Bangkok City Challenge outdoor team building program on the 9th September 2017 for 80 delegates from Saratoga Family from Indonesia who visited Bangkok and stayed for 4 days on an incentive trip. The program was organised via their agent, Red Apple Travel based in Jakarta and via the local Bangkok office.
Location:
The location for the event was the bustling city of Bangkok. Starting from the clients hotel Pullman G in Silom road, the group headed by tour coach to Lumpini Park, as stunning green oasis in the heart of the city which provided the perfect backdrop for a group photo and the first team challenge.
Company / People
The company based in Indonesia brought their delegates to Bangkok for an incentive trip and corporate meeting and as part of their 4 day visit they requested an off-site team building event via their organiser Red Apple Travel. We were asked to propose a cryptic clue event with a variety of team challenges utilizing public transport and incorporating local life and culture in the half day program concluding at Wat Arun and then lunch by the river of kings.
Event Objectives
The objectives for this event were to provide delegates with a competitive team building event whilst affording time to relax and enjoy the local culture and lifestyle of Bangkok. Teams took part in a variety of cultural and activity challenges. For each activity, they required leadership, strategy, communication, planning and interpretation to complete the activity and move on in the event.
Event Brief:
Teams will experience a wonderful morning of Thai culture and get up close to real life, by traveling through the heart of the city, experiencing different public transport options before cruising along the river of Kings and arriving at Wat Arun, or the Lawns of the Grand Palace for the final event challenge and one team group photo!
During the morning, team’s will visit a variety of locations and at each point be set a task to complete, a question to answer and a photo instruction to take one photo and upload via Instagram to their team’s page. Photos will form part of each team’s visual diary and have the potential to earn them bonus points for creativity and innovation.
After each location, they will receive a cryptic clue to decipher for the next location and need to plan how to travel there utilizing their planning skills and financial management of a limited travel budget. The winning team will only be known in the evening, after they have completed one extra shopping challenge at MBK, one of the city’s best known shopping malls and the winners awarded the Bangkok City Challenge gold medallions!
Event Schedule:
08:00 – 08:20 Event Briefing and Division of teams at Pullman G Hotel Silom
Teams will be allocated their event facilitator, receive 1 bottle of water and receive the instruction head to Lumpini Park. Teams will walk along Silom Road and cross over to the Rama 4 entrance to the park
08:40 – Upon arriving at Lumpini park, teams will receive a full event briefing for the Bangkok City Challenge.
They will then select an envelope which has their first team challenge and receive their travel budget with differing amounts.
A photo of each team and the group will be taken prior to the first challenge inside the park by the lake.
08:50 – 09:20 Lumpini Park:- Muay Thai / Thai Dancing
Team leaders will choose an envelope for another team for the first challenge. 4 teams will do the Muay Thai Challenge and 4 Teams will do the Thai Dancing challenge. Each challenge will last 30 minutes. They will be shown a routine which they need to observe and then replicate as a team. Only when the instructor is satisfied they have completed the challenge can they leave for the next challenge location.
09.20 – 09.50 – Lumpini Park Trail
Teams will self-navigate from the Kings Statue to the Rachadamjeri gates through clue points through Lumpini Park on the way to Erawan Shrine. They will need to identify each clue location, answer a question and take a team photo at each point. The pathway leads to your next location. – 30 minutes
09:50 – 10:20 – Erawan Shrine
Teams will exit Lumpini park and take a 15-minute stroll to the Erawan Shrine. Teams will receive 3 cryptic questions for which they need to find the answers to along with making a team flower offering to the 4 side Maha Brahman. – 15 minutes
Walk from Lumpini Park to Ratchaprasong intersection – 15 minutes
10:20 – 11.20 – Teams take the BTS trip from Rajademari to Saphan Taksin BTS. From here they head to Sathorn Pier and take the next available motor boat to Yodpiaman Pier. During the boat trip, they will need to be observant as possible, when they arrive at Yodpiaman Pier the teams will be asked questions about their journey and can only provide answers from their memory.
Next, they take a short walk to Pak klong Talad market. Here they need to find a specific flower at a designated shop in the market. Then they will receive their final instructions
11:20 – 11:50 – From the flower market, teams will need to find and barter for 2 or 3 tuk tuks, walk or take the next available river boat to Thachang Pier. Upon arrival, they need to board the barge which will take them over the river to Wat Arun.
11.50 – Wat Arun – Upon arriving at Wat Arun, teams will receive their final challenge. They need to search the location for a hidden message, which they need to write down and get it translated and tell our facilitator the word and the meaning in English.
12.30 – Group Photo – to be delivered to the hotel within 24 hours after the event in frames- one per participant.
12.40 – Leave from Wat Arun by Public Boat to the restaurant location
13:00 – Lunch at selected restaurant – Bangkok Bistro
14.00 – End of the event
