Krabi Activity Guide

The glorious beauty of Krabi’s beaches, cliffs, and islands make it an incredible choice for your next incentive trip or team building trip.  Located in the south on the Andaman coast of Thailand, Krabi and accessible by air from Bangkok, we will take care of all of your team building activity needs as well as arrange quality accommodation with the assistance of our partner hotels.

Krabi is well known as a destination for the adventurous, so it should be no surprise that Making Teams has a number of exciting adventure team building activities for your staff to enjoy.  Survivor Island, Treasure Island, and Jungle Adventure team building activities can be staged on the nearby islands of Koh Poda, the Phi Phi islands, and Maya Bay.  Unique to Krabi are the Cultural Discovery Koh Lanta and Cultural Discovery Krabi team building challenges.  In these challenges your staff will learn about local southern Thai culture and compete in team challenges with a cultural flavor.  Other outdoor team building activities include a Water Regatta, Outdoor Olympics, and Hotel Survivor, all of which can be arranged to be staged at our partner hotel eliminating travel time.

Indoor team building activities in Krabi are just as entertaining and positive towards building a team ethos in your company.  Arguably our most entertaining indoor team building activities are the Top Chef and Cocktail Shakers challenges.  Your staff will learn about the local southern Thai cuisine and then compete in team cook-offs and cocktail mixing challenges to recreate classic southern Thai dishes like tom yum goong soup or the classic Mai Thai drink.  Experiential games like the Six Thinking Hats and Indoor Fun team building activities will get your staff thinking critically by solving problems, evaluate their team and personal performance, and develop leadership skills.  We also have several thought provoking team building seminars including Six Indisputable Laws of Teamwork Seminar Thailand and Five Dysfunctions Seminar Thailand.

CSR has an important role to play in team building and incentive trip tourism in order to help make sure some of the benefits these businesses bring in return to the locals.  Your teams will learn about local environmental and communal issues and work together with charities to make a project to help a cause from that issue.  As Krabi is such a stunningly beautiful location, many clients choose to create environmental projects.  These projects in the past have included mangrove planting, turtle hatching, and beach clear ups, among others.

Places to Stay in Krabi

  • Ao Nang
  • Krabi Town
  • Railay
  • Koh Lanta
  • Nopparatthara Beach
  • Klong Muang Beach
  • Pai Plong Beach
  • The National Marine Park

Ao Nang

Aonang, is the largest and busiest resort along the Andaman coast.  Lively both in the day and the evening, Aonang has numerous bars, shops and restaurants as well as a good choice of MICE hotels to choose from including Ibis styles at an affordable price for budget groups and Deevana Plaza Krabi with extensive meeting facilities. The wonderful beach is ideal for outdoor with fun and beach Olympics team building and Ao-nang is also the gateway for transfers and tours to the more remote areas of the mainland coast and the off-shore islands by long-tail boat and speedboat. Ao-nang is highly recommended for corporate incentive groups looking to be in the heart of the action.

Krabi Town

Krabi Town is the capital of the province. Located along the main Krabi river estuary it is the focal point for travelers to reach the coast and off-shore Islands. Krabi Town is worth a visit to see its local markets and shops as well as take a trip along the river to see Khao Kanab Nam, the symbol of Krabi and explore the mangrove forests and the town is sure to feature on our Krabi Cultural Discovery. Wat Tham Suea known as Tiger Temple and Klong Thom hot springs are well known tourist attractions located further inland and might be challenge locations on our or Amazing Chase Krabi

Railay

Railay, also known as Rai Leh, is a small peninsula between the Krabi Town and Ao Nang. Only accessible only by boat, it is arguably the most well-known and photographed images of Krabi and is particularly well known for rock climbing. These cliffs attract rock climbers from all over the world, but the area is also popular due to its beautiful beaches and quiet relaxing atmosphere. The Rajavadee resort is the most luxurious and best known resort in this area, it is ideal for high end clientele looking for a relaxing corporate retreat and informal meeting setting. This beautiful all villa resort, spans both Railay bay waterfronts and also has a beachfront restaurant at Pranang Cave beach which is perfect for beach based team building and is one of our stops for our treasure island’s event.

Koh Lanta

Ko Lanta consists of several islands, the two largest of which are Ko Lanta Noi and Ko Lanta Yai where all the tourist action is. Ko Lanta is a large island with 6 km wide and over 30 kms long, 9 beaches lie from north to south along the sunset coast. The island boasts stunning scenery, fantastic white sandy beaches, coastlines dotted with more than 70 small islands and plenty of forest, coral reefs and under water life. The geography of the island is typically mangroves; coral rimmed beaches; and rugged tree covered hills. Ko Lanta is popular with tourists seeking a holiday away from the parties. Ko Lanta is a little less well-known than Ko Phi Phi, which has become more commercialised and corporate, but it is hardly undiscovered: the several beaches on the west coast of Ko Lanta Yai are each strung with a line of resorts and bungalows, although the farther down the island you venture, the less this is true. And even when the island is at it fullest, there will be a quiet place for you to relax – the beaches are never full.

Nopparatthara Beach

Nopparatthara Beach is much more laid back compared to its neighbor Ao-nang and is a fantastic choice for corporate incentive groups looking to be in a more relaxed yet accessible location. The beach is much more rustic compared to Ao-nang with stunning views towards the Phi Phi island chain, it provides a great location for beach team building events including Hotel Survivor and Water Regatta. Centara Anda Dhevi and Holiday Inn Krabi are two resort style hotels with great facilities for corporate groups and are recommended for mid-range sized conferences.

Klong Muang Beach

Klong Muang Beach is further north along the coast, it is a much quieter area and here you will find two of the finest and luxurious hotels in Krabi. Dusit Thani Resort Krabi and  Sofitel Krabi Phokeethra Golf and Spa Resort both offer extensive grounds, outstanding meeting facilities and world class facilities, both these resorts are highly recommended for larger corporate groups and on site team building events and learning seminars.

Pai Plong Beach

Pai Plong Beach and Railay are located to the south of Ao-nang . Centara Grand Beach Resort is located at Pai Plong beach, it is a superb and modern five-star villa resort in a self-contained cliff side setting with extensive on-site facilities and it is only reachable by boat transfer from Ao-nang.

The National Marine Park

The National Marine Park is one of the most visited areas of Krabi. Home to stunning beaches and the unique island rock formations, of Poda Island, Chicken Island and Tup Island, this is an amazing backdrop for beach and island based team building events and particularly suited to Treasure islands, Survivor Island and our newest challenge, Pirates of the Andaman, themed events where we recreate the environment for a superb day of outdoor team building in Krabi. Please note National Park Marine fee applies 400 baht per person and is subject to change in addition to our event fees.

Krabi Geography

Krabi is a port town in the southwest of Thailand. It is situated on the Strait of Malacca on the Andaman Sea, and is a departure point for fishing and travel to nearby islands – of which there are over 154 in the province. The province of Phuket is to the west across the Phang Nga Bay. The seat of the provincial government is in Kabi.

Most settlements in Krabi are coastal fishing villages. The surrounding region of Krabi is largely planted with coconuts, and the area is also littered with limestone peaks.

The region is full of immense natural beauty including shell reefs, beaches, botanical gardens, underground streams, and caves. Krabi has many limestone hills – their caves contain many stalagmites and stalactites. Two caves even have prehistoric rock-paintings depicting humans and animals.

Palm plantations cover over half of the province’s farmland, with rubber plantations making up most of the rest.

Flights to Krabi

Krabi is served by the Krabi International Airport, about 4 miles east of the city center.

There are currently no direct flights from the UK to Krabi.

From the London area airports, there are many uninterrupted flights to Bangkok, from which it is a short domestic flight or transport service. London Gatwick (LGT), Heathrow (LHR), and Luton (LTN) offer these one stop services. The average flight time from London into Thailand is about 15 hours.

Once in Bangkok, there are 29 direct flights per day traveling to Krabi. There is also the option of a 12 hour bus journey of about 500 miles.

Elsewhere in the UK, there are flights to Bangkok from:

● Manchester (MAN)

● Glasgow (GLA)

● Birmingham (BHX)

● Newcastle (NCL)

Manchester (MAN) offers the most flights and direct flights. The rest require one stop. Or if you want a flight from Bangkok to Krabi, all of these airports offer two-stop flights to Krabi.

From Europe, Paris, Frankfurt, Zurich, and Amsterdam airports all offer direct flights to Bangkok, as well as one and two-stop flights to Krabi. The average flight time depends on the number of stops, but can range from 15 hours to over a day.

The United States offers no direct flights to Thailand, so all flights from the States require at least connections. However, there are a range of flight options available and the route time can vary by hours. The best and most frequent flights are from the New York area airports (JFK, Newark, and LaGuardia), San Francisco (SFO) airport, and Los Angeles (LAX) airport.

Krabi’s airport is close to Krabi Town, about 20 minutes by public transport.

There are airport shuttle buses available that travel the route between the airport and Krabi Bus Station (Taladkao), Krabi Town, Klong Jilad Pier (ferry Ko Phi-Phi), Ao Nang Beach, Klong Muang, and Khao Kwang Beach a couple of times per hour.

Weather in Krabi

Like much of the rest of Thailand, Pattaya has a tropical wet and dry climate, which is divided into seasons.

It is hot year-round, with the average temperature never dropping below 25 degrees Celsius (77 Fahrenheit). The dry season in Krabi runs roughly from December to April – the hot season lasts for about 2 months, between February and April. Daily temperatures regularly exceed 34 degrees Celsius (93 Fahrenheit).

During this time the air is very dry and there is little precipitation, and it is less humid – though still over 60 per cent on average.

There is lots of sunshine in this season. These are the best times to visit as a tourist, as not only is there less rain and more sun but the cooler air also brings a refreshing breeze with it.

The rainy season is caused by the southwest monsoon, and runs from May to October in Krabi. During these months it will rain almost every day, usually heavily in the afternoon and evening, and thunderstorms and hurricanes are common.

Towards the end of the southeast monsoon season, in roughly October and November, the amount of rainfall is at its greatest.

In November and December, before the dry season begins, there can still be quite a lot of rainfall and thunderstorms. This is caused either by a delay in the retreat of the monsoon or because of a tropical cyclone.

Local Guide: Krabi

Krabi is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Thailand, ranking fifth in terms of income. It is possibly one of the most spectacular destinations in Thailand. It is packed with resplendent beaches, limestone hills and caves, access to nature, and immense views.

● Railay beach is a must. It is one of the most beautiful spots in the country. There are spectacular cliffs, clear blue seas, and even monkeys. It also contains the absolute best of Thailand’s dream beaches. There are other beaches to visit in Krabi too, such as the Phra Nang beach, which has the extraordinary Princess Cave.

● Thailand is full of temples and Krabi is host to an amazing one. The Tiger Cave Temple is a 1237 trek but well worth it to see the Buddha at the top and for the amazing views it offers of Krabi.

● There is plenty more beauty to explore: the Emerald Pool and Blue Pool are spectacular, as are the nearby hot springs; you can meet the elephants of Krabi, and even bathe with them; and there is the Khao Khanap Nam Cave, where you will see amazing stalactite formations and even some monkeys.

● Krabi town is the provincial capital of Krabi and offers many lovely places to visit. The town has a traditional market life to explore and is a scene for long term travelers and backpackers. The night market’s are one of the main attractions of the province and one of the best things to do.
