In this exciting event, participants construct and decorate a derby car in teams which they use to compete in a Mario-kart-like racing tournament! Either indoor or outdoor, the track comes complete with F1 advertisements, pit stops, power-ups which can be obtained during the race, or traps which can be set to knock out the competition!
- To improve communication within the team
- To practice planning and organisation
- To consider leadership skills
- To focus on team synergy and individual roles
- To get to know each other and have a fun and enjoyable time
- To manage time and complete team challenges together.
Delegates build soap box cars from kits, design their vehicle and branding, then race their cars in competition with each other. Additionally, the students from a beneficiary school may take part in the construction and racing of the cars. This provides students with a unique and fun learning experience and provides delegates with the opportunity to connect with and help educate local children on engineering projects.
Teams will be tasked with designing and building their soap box car and also competing with it in a series of races. The races will be held in a tournament style on a prepared track with various power ups and traps being added to the track in each successive round, similar to Mario Kart.
The location for the event is usually at the client’s hotel conference room or outdoor space.
Scoring will be based on a set of points given for speed, quality and creativity in design. The team with the most overall points at the end of the activity will be declared winner.
Insurance and instructor supervision at all times is an important safety factor, and in the event of an emergency of team member withdrawal, transport and medical backup will be standing by.
The event briefing and debrief takes place at the activity location. The group is separated into teams and introduced to their facilitators, then the lead facilitator gives an introduction of the event including (safety) instructions and objectives for the activity.
During the debrief, the facilitator discusses the event challenges and asks each team questions to assess their performance before announcing the winning team (if applicable).
Briefing and debrief usually take around 15 minutes each but can be extended for more in-depth analysis of team performance.
The half day program takes up to 4 hours and the full day program is up to 8 hours.
